    TINUPAD ni Games and Amusement Board (GAB) Chairman Abraham ‘Baham’ Mitra na walang maiiwang professional athletes sa kaloob na ayuda ng gobyerno sa gitna ng krisis dulot ng coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic.
     
    Sa pakikipagtulungan sa Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), sa pangunguna ni Assistant Secretary Jade Jamolod, at pakikiisa ni Senator Bong Go, kabuuang 166 boxers, mixed martial arts at muay thai fighters, trainers at ring officials ang napagkalooban ng ayuda sa isinagawang Assistance to Individual in Crisis Situation (AICS) program sa Buhangin Gymnasium, Buhangin Davao City, at General Santos City.
     
    Kabuuang 59 individuals mula sa iba’t ibang barangay sa Davao City at Compostella Valley, habang  higit 100 sa General Santos City ang nabigyan ng suporta na nagkakahalaga ng P5,000 cash at relief goods sa ilalim ng AICS program.
     
    “Nagpapasalamat po tayo sa pagtugon ng DSWD para maisama ang ating mga kapus-palad na professional atheletes at individual na lisensiyado ng GAB sa mga nabigyan ng ayuda sa gitna ng krisis. Alam naman po natin na itong mga kasama natin ay nakabatay lamang ang kabuhayan sa bawat laban at sports events,” ani Mitra.
     
    Ipinahatid din niya ang pasasalamat kay Senator Go, Chairman ng Senate Committee on Sports, sa ibinigay na karagdagang tulong sa Pinoy combat athletes tulad ng relief goods at mga bagong bisikleta.
     
    “Walang pagsidlan ang saya ng ating mga kababayan sa natanggap na tulong sa ating pamahalaan at sa butihing Senator Bong Go. Tunay na malasakit ang ipinakikita nila sa ating mga atleta,” sambit pa ng dating Palawan Governor at Congressman. 
     
    Nauna rito, nagsagawa ng relief operation ang GAB at DSWD sa mga Pinoy athletes na nakabade sa Maynila at karatig lalawigan sa Luzon. 
     
    Mula sa Davao City at General Santos City, tuloy ang programa sa Cagayan de Oro City.
     
    Kasama sina DSWD Assistant Secretary Jade C. Jamolod, regional Director Cezario Joel Espejo, at assistant regional director Bonifacio Selma, sinabi ni Mitra na ang programa ay naglalayon na maiangat ang morale ng mga atleta, trainors at iba pang individual sa komunidad ng pro sports na lubhang apektado ng kasalukuyang pandemya.
     
    “The intervention provided was through the agency’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation, a program that serves as a social safety net or a stop-gap measure to support the recovery of individuals and families suffering from unexpected life events or crisis. 
     
     
    “Under AICS, the agency provides medical, educational, burial, transportation and food assistance to persons in crisis situations, specifically those belonging to the informal sector and other poor, marginalized, vulnerable, and disadvantaged individuals,” pahayag ni Espejo.(LP)
