Mikee Cojuangco-Jaworski nahalal bilang executive board ng IOC

MANILA – Magiging parte na si former actress Mikee Cojuangco-Jaworski sa makapangyarihang International Olympic Committee (IOC) executive board matapos mahalal sa isinagawang virtual IOC session, Sabado.

Si Jaworski, gold medalist sa 2002 Asian Games sa equestrian, ay nakatakdang unang babaeng Asian na makakuha ng upuan sa board, na
"assumes general overall responsibility for the administration of the IOC and monitor compliance with the Olympic Charter."

Anak ni dating Philippine Olympic Committee president Peping Cojuangco si Mikee ay makakasama ni Argentine equestrian Gerardo Werthein sa IOC executive board, pinalitan si Sergey Bubka, na iiwanan ang kanyang posisyon matapos ang walong taong termino, at Ser Miang Ng, na nahalal bilang vice president.

Sa pagkakahalal ni Cojuangco-Jaworski, misis ni former Philippine Basketball Association champion player Dudut Jaworski, ang bilang ng babaeng kinatawan sa IOC executive board ay umakyat na sa one-third ng kabuuang bilang ng mga miyembro.

"The session has demonstrated the IOC’s commitment to promoting gender equality within its leadership," pahayag ng IOC.

Bago maging bahagi ng IOC executive board, si Cojuangco-Jaworski, na naging Philippine representative sa IOC mula 2013, ay parte rin ng coordination commissions para sa Tokyo Olympics na nakatakda sa susunod na taon at 2024 Paris Olympics. (LP/PNA)
