    Vietnamese stuns Cambodian in Women’s Tennis

     Savanna Ly Nguyen of Vietnam stunned fourth-seed Andrea Daravy Ka of Cambodia 6-1, 7-5 on Sunday as action in the women’s singles of the 30th Southeast Asian Games tennis tournament got going at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.

    Nguyen’s victory was the lone upset of the day as other seeded players advanced to the quarterfinals of the competition.

    Top seed Peangtarn Plipeuch of Thailand beat Thandar Aung of Myanmar 6-1, 6-1; No. 2 Aldila Sutjiadi of Indonesia beat Marian Jade Capadocia of the Philippines 6-2, 6-2; and No. 3 Aunchisa Chanta of Thailand beat Grace Annete Krusling of Cambodia 6-3, 6-1.

    In men’s singles, No. 4 Kasidit Samrej of Thailand beat Ari Fahresi of Indonesia 7-5, 6-2 while No. 5 Jeson Patrombon of the Philippines humbled Sataporn Simmalavong of Laos, 6-1, 6-1.

    Sixth-seed Chin Zao Quan Christian trounced My Paing Min of Myanmar 6-1, 6-1 and seventh-ranked Hao Yuan Ng of Singapore beeat Kuang Zaw of Myanmar 6-1, 6-2.

    Singapore SEA Games gold medalist Treat Huey and Denise Dy won over Chenda Som and Kenny Bun of Cambodia 6-1, 6-4 to advance into the quarterfinals of the mixed doubles where they will face top seed Sutjia.PR
