    • Table Tennis

Reigning UAAP women's table tennis champions University of Santo Tomas flexed their muscles early on as they swept both their opponents to open their campaign, Saturday at Blue Eagle Gym in Quezon City.

The Lady Paddlers from Espana carved two 3-0 victories against University of the Philippines and University of the East to take an early 2-0 win-loss record after Day 1 of the competitions.

Kathleen Tempiatura took care of both her doubles assignments of the day with different partners to close out both wins for UST. The fourth-year standout teamed up with Ciara Derecho in the morning to win over UP's Pau Cabrera and Lyra Duro, 3-1, and with rookie Leigh Villanueva in the afternoon against Sandy Dimaala and Joyce San Agustin, 3-1 as well.

Last year's runner-up La Salle also remain undefeated in two ties to share the lead with the Tigresses. The Lady Green Paddlers had to fend off both Far Eastern University and Ateneo in the deciding singles matches to finish at 2-0 for the day.

UE, UP, FEU, and Ateneo are all tied at 1-1 in the middle of the pack.

The Lady Warriors and the Lady Maroons both took their wins against National University, while the Lady Eagles and the Lady Eagles and the Lady Tamaraws vented their ire on Adamson University.PR
