GAME OF THRONES is due to come to an end next year after nine years on air - but the final moments of the show were decided a long time ago.

Game of Thrones is due to begin once again in April for its eighth and final season.

And although the plot is currently unknown, many fans have been spending their days theorising about the fate of the characters.

But this is not something the writers of the series did, as Dan Weiss and David Benioff recently revealed.

She asked: “Out of genuine curiosity, when did you first figure out how you would end Game of Thrones?”

To which the bosses replied: “Sometime after we finished the third season is when we knew.”

The final episode of season three saw Daenerys Targaryen (played by Emilia Clarke) claiming her first piece of land after she freed the slaves of Yunkai.

Could be a hint at Daenerys’ triumph in the overall war for the throne?

Or could it have spelled out the end of Daenerys’ reign after she saw her first taste of victory?

Either way, Daenerys definitely isn’t safe in the final season of the show.

Most recently she teamed up with Jon Snow (Kit Harington) who has since been revealed to be her nephew.

However this means he has a greater stake towards the throne than she does which could cause some issues between the new couple.

Meanwhile the Night King has been slowly gaining ground and power since he claimed one of Daenerys’ three dragons.

However it is not yet revealed what the creature’s intentions are - other than to destroy whatever gets in his way.

Meanwhile fans have been theorising that Catelyn Stark (Michelle Fairley) will make a return in the final season.

As fans will remember, Catelyn was brutally slain during the Red Wedding, alongside her son Robb Stark (Richard Madden).

But as the Night King gets ever-closer to Winterfell, could she be next to be raised from the dead?

If so, could the show’s book-readers see the arrival of Lady Stoneheart - Catelyn’s undead alter ego?
