MANILA - Kapamilya star Sarah Geronimo was named as one of the nominees in the 2016 MTV Europe Music Awards, it was revealed Wednesday.

The former "The Voice Kids" coach is nominated in the Best Southeast Asia Act category alongside Vietnam's Dong Nhi, Singapore's Gentle Bones, Indonesia's Raisa Andriana, Thailand's Thaitanium, and Yuna's Malaysia.

A seventh nominee will be decided via a Twitter poll. Another Filipina, Donnalyn Bartolome, a YouTube blogger who rose to fame after the release of her single "Kakaibabe," is one of the contenders for the final spot.

The winner of the Best Southeast Asia Act category, which will be based on online votes, will go on to represent the region in the Worldwide Act:  Asia category against other winning acts from Japan, Taiwan, and China and Hong Kong.

Last year, "Till I Met You" star James Reid lost out to Tung M-TP of Vietnam. In 2014, Geronimo won the category but failed to win the Worldwide Act: Asia award.

In addition to her MTV EMA nod, Geronimo, who released her 12th studio album, "The Great Unknown," back in 2015, is also up for several awards at 2016 Philippine Movie Press Club Star Awards.
