Katarina Rodriguez bags 1st runner up in Miss Intercontinental 2017

Another podium finish for the Philippines in the beauty pageant scene.
Katarina Rodriguez won first runner up in the Miss Intercontinental 2017 pageant, held in Hurghada, Egypt on Thursday (PHT).

The 24-year-old beauty queen also bagged Miss Intercontinental Asia and Oceania award.

Miss Intercontinental 2017 - Veronica Salas Vallejo of Mexico
1st runner-up - Katarina Rodriguez of Philippines
2nd runner-up - Cathelijne Heppenhuis of Netherlands
3rd runner-up - Amanda Cardoso of Brazil
4th runner-up - Lizeth Villanueva of Colombia
5th runner-up - Lee Su Jin of Korea
An emotional Rodriguez thanked her fans in a post coronation video posted in the Miss Intercontinental Facebook page.
"I miss all of you, I miss my country. It was a tough ride, it was a lot of work, a lot of hours," a teary-eyed Rodriguez said.
During the pageant's question and answer, Rodriguez said the Arabic word "Meraki" taught her an important lesson.
"It means to do all things with passion, soul, and creativity," Rodriguez said. "When I heard this word and the definition, it resonated with me 'til now and I think it will for the rest of my life," she added.
Meraki is the name of one of the resorts in Egypt where the pageant was held.
Mexico's Veronica Salas Vallejo took home the crown. Cathelijne Heppenhuis of Netherlands placed second runner up, and was also crowned Miss Intercontinental Europe.
Brazil's Amanda Cardoso was third runner up while Colombia's Lizeth Villanueva and Korea's Lee Su Jin placed fourth and fifth runner up, respectively.
Rodriguez was crowned Bb. Pilipinas Intercontinental in May 2017. Prior to her beatuy pageant stint, she rose to fame after placing second in Asia's Next Top Model Cycle 2 in 2014.
