The No. 1 music company in the Philippines, MCA Music, has just released the first-ever album from The Voice Teens in the Philippines featuring finalists from the show.
Jona Soquite, 13, was the champion at the Grand Finals on July 30, garnering an impressive 44.78 percent of the votes, followed by fellow finalists Isabela Vinzon, Mica Becerro, and Jeremy Glinoga, with 22.42, 17.79, and 15.01 percent of the votes, respectively.
Top 4 finisher Glinoga from Team Sharon, describes the recording process as a “surreal” experience but also a great opportunity to be able to “showcase who I am as an artist.” Grand Champ Soquite, who recorded the Whitney Houston classic “The Greatest Love of All” for the album, says, “Ang pinaka-importanteng bagay na nagawa ko sa pag-record ng kantang ‘yon ay ang makanta siya na galing sa puso ko (The most important thing that I was able to do with recording the song – was to sing it from my heart).”
First runner-up Isabela Vinzon, from Team Bamboo, dedicates her cover of Lady Gaga’s “You and I” to her father, saying that the song was “key” to her getting to be part of the Grand Finals and that she is able to relate to the song’s message.
Although releasing a set of covers for their debut album after The Voice Teens, the youngsters assure that their renditions put a new spin on well-loved songs. While nothing will ever beats the original, Team Sarah’s Soquite says, “Siguro ang iba sa version ko ay mas naging bago ang kanta dahil sa panahon at henerasyon natin na kailangang bagayan para mas maintindihan at magustuhan ng mga kabataan.”
The first The Voice Teens in the Philippines aired from April 16 to July 30 with coaches Lea Salonga, Sharon Cuneta, Bamboo, and Sarah Geronimo.
The Voice Teens The Album is available through digital downloads via Spinnr and iTunes and streaming at Spinnr, Apple Music, and Spotify.
