Beautiful debutantes out to frighten viewers

Dubbed as “It Girls of Horror,” Sue Ramirez, Miles Ocampo, Michelle Vito, Jane de Leon and Chanel Morales band together to terrify audiences in Regal Entertainment’s “The Debutantes.”

All five were chosen primarily because of their looks, related director Prime Cruz, but they proved worthy of the big break entrusted to them by Regal matriarch Mother Lily Monteverde and her daughter Roselle.

“I make sure to work with the right people,” said Cruz, “Kailangan sa concept ng movie, magaganda ‘yung bida. Kita naman natin maganda sila lahat. Pero pagdating sa set, they delivered.

“Si Sue, medyo baliw. Naniniwala kasi ako na para maging magaling, kailangan medyo ganu’n. Walang magaling na walang saltik.

“Si Miles naman, alam niya ang character niya, pati maliliit na bagay. Si Chanel, very willing siya to overcome her fears para sa project. Si Jane, siya ang medyo bago pero pagdating sa acting, kaya niyang sumabay sa girls. Si Michelle, siya ang pinaka-okay takutin,” he further said.

The story of “The Debutantes” revolves around Kate, a loner who tries to win the friendship of Lara (Miles), Jenny (Janes), Candice (Michelle) and Shayne (Chanel). However, Kate only gets close to Lara, while the rest of the girls find joy in bullying her. And when she has a nightmare, it’s only Lara who takes her seriously.

One by one, the girls meet their mysterious end, with the culprit remaining secret until the end.

“’Pag pinanuod pelikula, mamamatay ang mga girls isa-isa pero hindi natin alam bakit. May makikitang clue sa trailer, pero kailangan panoorin para malaman kung sino ang pumapatay,” explained the director.

The debutantes don’t have male partners in the film, but when asked who they want to be paired with, they eagerly revealed their ideal escort.

Jane wants to work with Paulo Avelino. “Hindi lang dahil gwapo, magaling sya. Kahit malayo age namin, malay mo...,” she wistfully revealed.

Michelle has always had a crush on Sam Milby. “Si Papa Sam!” she giggled, “Crush na crush ko siya. Si Kuya John Lloyd din, magaling umarte.”

Sue will not say no to working again with Arjo Atayde. “Naka-work ko na siya before but I’d like to work again,” she admitted.

And Miles, who works with John Lloyd in the sitcom “Home Sweetie Home,” said he remains a favorite. “Si Kuya Lloydie, gusto ko siya makatrabaho sa aktingan.”

Chanel, too, is smitten with Lloydie. “Tatlo na tayo,” she told Miles and Michelle.

The girls say the experience of doing the horror film has been enjoyable and all are hoping “The Debutantes,” which opens in cinemas Oct. 4, will be a hit so there will be a follow-up project from Regal.
