Chelsea Clinton took the stage at the Democratic National Convention on Thursday night to introduce her mother as the first female presidential candidate from a major political party.

Chelsea Clinton took the stage at the Democratic National Convention on Thursday night to introduce her mother as the first female presidential candidate from a major political party.

"I’m here as a proud American, a proud Democrat, a proud mother, and tonight, in particular, a very, very proud daughter,” Chelsea told the crowd.

The former first daughter, now married with two children of her own, praised her mother’s caring heart and commanding presence, both as first lady and now as a powerful politician in her own right.

"She always feels like there isn’t a moment to lose because she knows that for that mother, for that family, there isn’t,” she explained. "People ask me all the time: How does she do it?…Here’s how: It’s because she never, ever forgets who she’s fighting for.”

Chelsea’s speech elicited proud responses from both of her parents. Former president Bill Clinton sat with Chelsea’s husband, Marc Mezvinsky, and embraced his son-in-law, tearing up as Chelsea extolled her mother’s accomplishments.

From backstage, Hillary shared her own message of pride via Twitter.

"Hillary Clinton ✔ @HillaryClinton

So proud.
