Selena Gomez Gets Candid About Fame at the Met Gala: ‘I Think I’d Be Fine If It All Went Away’

Selena Gomez enjoyed a Cinderella moment on Monday night when she stepped out for her first carpet appearance with her new boyfriend, The Weeknd, at the Met Gala.

And though the pop star stunned in her white Coach dress and made headlines for her PDA, Gomez got surprisingly candid inside the Met Gala, opening up to Humans of New York photographer Brandon Stanton.

“I feel like I’m just starting, but I think I’d be fine if it all went away,” the Disney Channel alum, 24, said.

She went on to talk about how her upbringing influenced her outlook on fame.

“I get that from my mother. From the moment I started singing, she always reminded me that all of this was a privilege, and could be taken at any moment,” she continued. “So singing is not how I define myself. I try to keep my identity rooted in my friendships and my faith.”

The 13 Reasons Why executive producer recently opened up to ET about her banner year and her life now.

"13 Reasons Why was a really big moment for me, just because we had the book for seven years and we worked so hard on it," she said in late April. "But, everything. You know, my personal life, and my family and my friends, I'm just, I'm in a really happy place. It's been good."
