St. Benilde's Justin Gutang needed just a completed dunk in beating Arellano U’s William de Leon and Lyceum of the Philippines U’s Enoch Valdez in the finals to emerge the slam dunk king of the Season 94 NCAA All-Star Game at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan City.

Gutang did a reverse two-handed dunk at first, tried to do another one but failed to complete it before settling for a left-handed jam that elicited a 41 from the five-member judges’ panel that included Alab coach Jimmy Alapag and NCAA Press Corps president Norman Riego.

Paris—Goats can distinguish smiling human faces from frowning ones on photos, and actively seek out snapshots of happier individuals, a study said Wednesday.

Shown two pictures of the same person—one with a happy expression and the other angry—20 domesticated goats in an experiment were more likely to approach the smiling image and touch it with their snout, said researchers from Europe and Brazil. 

President Rodrigo Duterte, who promised clean and honest midterm elections next year, is planning to set up checkpoints nationwide and limit the number of each candidate’s security escorts and firearms to just two.

“I will limit the firearms to only two. Uniformed security, two,” Duterte said during the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan leadership assembly in Pasay City Friday at the GSIS Financial Center.

Since its launch in 2011, the JFVA has recognized numerous Filipino families for their exemplary advocacies that improve the lives of people in their communities.

Out of hundreds of entries from the country and abroad, the finalists for the 8th year of the search include 11 families from Luzon, one family from Visayas, one from Mindanao, and two overseas Filipino worker families from Australia and the United States.

On August 23, Ambassador Haneda attended the commissioning ceremony of two 44m class patrol vessels and the handover ceremony of three 7m class high-speed boats at the Headquarters of the Philippine Coast Guard(PCG) in Manila.  The ceremony was also attended by Executive Secretary Salvador C. Medialdea and PCG Commandant Elson E. Hermogino. In his speech, Secretary Medialdea expressed his deepest appreciation for support from Japan.
