Disney’s iconic musical The Lion King has been playing on Broadway for over 20 years. The production, directed and designed by Julie Taymor, opened in 1997 at the New Amsterdam Theatre before moving to the Minskoff in 2006, where it still plays today.

The current Broadway cast features Bradley Gibson as Simba, Syndee Winters as Nala, L. Steven Taylor as Mufasa, Thom Christopher Warren as Zazu, Tshidi Manye as Rafiki, Stephen Carlile as Scar, Fred Berman as Timon, and Ben Jeffrey as Pumbaa.

The Lion King features a book by Roger Allers and Irene Mecchi (adapted from the screenplay by Mecchi, Jonathan Roberts, and Linda Woolverton), music by Elton John, and lyrics by Tim Rice, with additional music and lyrics by Lebo M, Mark Mancina, Jay Rifkin, Hans Zimmer, and Taymor. Garth Fagan is choreographer.

Disney's upcoming live-action remake of the animated film will hit theaters this summer featuring an all-star cast. Watch the trailer below.
