Usain Bolt sprinted his way into history on Sunday when he won the gold medal in the men's 100m dash to become the first athlete to win three straight Olympic titles in the event.
The 29-year-old Jamaican, who entered the race as the odds-on favorite to win, was met with a chorus of cheers from the audience as he took his place on the track, and he did not disappoint his fans.
Bolt came off the starting blocks slightly slower than America's Justin Gatlin -- considered to be the only competitor who could have beaten him -- but quickly overcame everyone in the second half of the race to finish at 9.81 seconds.
Gatlin came in second at 9.89 seconds to win the silver, while Andre De Grasse of Canada finished .02 seconds later to earn the bronze.
Bolt still has two more events coming up in Rio, with the men's 200m on Tuesday and the 4x100m relay on Thursday. If the superstar sprinter takes the gold medal in both of those events, he'll have nine career golds -- more than any Olympian in history, except for swimmer Michael Phelps, who has 23.
