President Rodrigo Duterte fast tracked the expansion of the passenger terminal building of the Daniel Z. Romualdez (DZR) Airport in Tacloban City, which used to be dilapidated and was further ruined by the 2013 super typhoon Yolanda.

Tacloban City Mayor Cristina G. Romualdez expressed the Taclobanons’ gratitude to the president during the inauguration of the newly renovated building on March 16.

Department of Transportation and Communication Secretary Arthur Tugade, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines Director General Capt. Jim Sydiongco, and officials of Region 8 graced the inauguration.

Tugade said that the expansion is part of the administration’s commitment to provide travelers safe, comfortable and convenient airport terminals.

“This means so much to Tacloban being the gateway of Eastern Visayas. The new passenger terminal airport expansion will surely bring in more tourists, more visitors, and fellow Taclobanons back home,” said Mayor Cristina. The Mayor also thanked Duterte for always prioritizing the rebuilding of Tacloban.

The P17-million DZR Airport Expansion Passenger Terminal Building can now serve thousands of passengers flying in and out of Eastern Visayas. The DZR Airport is one of the busiest terminals in the country.
