English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran bagged another international award after he was named as the world's best-selling recording artist of 2017 by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI).
Sheeran's latest studio album "Divide" had earned him the success. It was named as the best-selling album, having been certified multi-platinum in 36 markets.
Meanwhile, one of the album's hits, "Shape of You", was announced as the best-selling single globally.
This makes him the first Global Recording Artist of the Year with both best-selling album and single of the year.
"Being crowned the biggest star in the world, with the biggest song and biggest album, is the result of years of ambition, creativity, and hard work on a global scale,” CEO of Recorded Music for Warner Music Group and Chairman and CEO of Warner Music UK Max Lousada said.
“Ed is truly an incredible songwriter, vocalist and performer, whose ability to tell stories and make people feel is what stands him out from the crowd.
He's always had a totally authentic connection with his fans, something he places over everything else," he added.
Sheeran is the fifth recipient of the award following One Direction in 2013, Taylor Swift in 2014, Adele in 2015, and Drake in 2016.
