The 70’s was that Golden Era of Pinoy Music when artists like Rico, Imelda, Rey, and Claire emerged with their own unique brands that made them widely popular among Filipinos.
Rico J. Puno, known for his soulful sound and all-out performances with a punch of comedy, earned his title as the “Total Entertainer”. Imelda Papin, known for her dynamic vocals and sentimental songs, was dubbed the “Sentimental Songstress”. Rey Valera takes the title “Mr. Hitmaker” as the country’s premier composer, while Claire Dela Fuente, with her soothing voice, was dubbed the “Karen Carpenter of the Philippines” and “Asia’s Sweetest Voice.”
Their hits are some of the most loved and requested songs that have made an impact in the lives of Filipinos way back in the 70s and up until today. Their brands and songs definitely stood the test of time making them true icons of OPM and indeed, timeless.
