Emmanuel Jean-Michel Frédéric Macron will be sworn in as the President of France next month, six months shy of his 40th birthday.
What is getting the attention of people the world over is his May-December love affair with his 64-year-old wife Brigitte, his teacher 24 years ago.
When Macron was 15, his teacher was happily married with three children. What is even more interesting is that Brigitte’s second child was Macron’s classmate, who everybody, including his own parents, thought was his girlfriend.
When he was 17, Macron promised to marry the then 42-year-old teacher.
He was 30 and she was almost 55 when they got married in 2007.
The former investment banker specially thanked Brigitte after he won the first round of the French presidential race, saying that she was always there, and “without whom I wouldn’t be me.”
As they say, age does not matter, not in politics, not in love. And Emmanuel and Brigitte prove just that.
