Asia’s leading health and beauty retailer Watsons brought expert doctors to talk about diseases and health management in its second health symposium exclusive to Watsons Card members.

Dubbed “World of Wellness,” the symposium at SM City Trade Hall in Cebu provided the audience valuable insights to help improve their overall well-being.

“By gaining more knowledge on health and wellness, Filipinos become more empowered,” said Watsons health trading director Rafael Lim.

The speakers included Dr. Kevin Bautista, Dr. Celine Aquino, Dr. Marivic Vestal, and Dr. Marissa Bravo-Garcia.

Dr. Bautista talked about being a flu fighter across generations and the basic of asthma. According to him influenza is the most common VPD (vaccines preventable disease), and that prevention and treatment are as simple as practicing good health habits and getting vaccinated.

About 10.7 million Filipinos suffer from asthma, according to Dr. Bautista, adding that seeking doctor’s assessment is the best way to address the condition.

Doctors Aquino and Vestal, on the other hand, discussed inane things that can kill a person or the not-so-well-known risk factors for a heart attack.

The lecture focused on these risks and disparate factors, such as holidays (the incidence of heart attack is highest on Christmas day and New Year’s day), too much alcohol, “third-hand” smoke, gum disease, and even traffic. The association of these factors to heart attack have been the subject of much research.

Finally, Dr. Bravo-Garcia’s talk focused on diabetes management. According to her, weight loss, healthy diet, and physical activity (e.g. 150min/week of brisk walking) help prevent the disease.

Aside from the enlightening talks, Watsons Card members also enjoyed booth activities from various sponsors. Lucky attendees also got raffle prizes and giveaways.
