Philippine demand for dental implant grows

DENTAL osseointegration, or dental implant, has become a popular dental procedure in the Philippines. The surgical procedure embeds titanium into the jawbone, beneath the gum, for the mounting of replacement teeth. The process creates natural-looking teeth and results in improved speech, easier chewing and stronger teeth, leading to greater self-esteem.

While demand for the procedure is growing, the dental implant industry in the country is fairly new. Dental practitioners have to train in the United States or Europe and not everybody can afford the cost.

To bring the latest advances in dental implant to Filipinos, Dr. Peter Moy, one of the leading experts in the procedure, will hold a one-day conference on November 19, 2017 at the Rizal Ballroom of the Makati Shangri-La Hotel.

In his first visit to the Philippines, Dr. Moy, a protege of the acknowledged father of modern dental implantology, Dr. Per-Ingvar Branemark, will share his knowledge on dental osseointegration with local practitioners. Dr. Moy is a clinical professor of oral and maxillofacial surgery in the Division of Diagnostic and Surgical Sciences at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Dentistry. He is the president of the Academy of Osseointegration and director of the UCLA Dental Implant Center and Straumann Surgical Dental Clinic.

Dr. Moy will give a lecture on the latest development in osseointegration in the morning of the conference and perform a live dental implant surgery in the afternoon.

The Dental Implant Conference is presented by Straumann Philippines, world leader in implant, restorative, and regenerative dentistry, in partnership with the Philippine Academy of Esthetic Dentistry and Philippine Prosthodontic Society.
