Boost your immune system this rainy season

MONSOON season is here again. Fortunately for students, schools and local governments proactively suspend classes if their health and safety will be jeopardized. Employees, on the other hand, must bear it and trudge to work as usual.

Exposure to inclement weather, flood, and extreme temperature changes can take a toll on a person’s health. “People are more susceptible to colds, cough and flu during the rainy season,” said Pfizer Consumer Healthcare North Asia Medical Lead Dr. Egbert Dorado.

“But not everyone can afford to call in sick. Some people do not have the luxury of sick leaves and company-sponsored health insurance. Those who depend on daily wages cannot miss even a day of work,” he added.

A national study on influenza cases in the country from 2006 to 2012 showed that it is more prevalent during the rainy months of June to November. 1 In 2015, the Department of Health recorded an estimate of 480,000 flu cases nationwide. 2

Medical experts suggest taking a proactive stance against seasonal illnesses. Practicing good hygiene such as regular handwashing with soap and water, getting enough sleep, and eating nutritious food will certainly help ward off disease-causing germs and viruses. Using appropriate rain gear will also help protect commuters from the onslaught of heavy rains and dirty floodwaters.

But the least costly and, hands down, the most efficient way to evade rainy day disease is to boost the immune system. Dr. Dorado explains, “The immune system is our body’s natural defense against microorganisms that make us sick.”

Having a strong immune system makes all the difference between a person who easily catches the flu and a person who doesn’t.

A healthy lifestyle will help ensure that one’s defense system is in top condition. Adequate intake of vitamins and minerals are necessary for the immune system to function efficiently. When choosing the right supplements, read the label to make sure that it contains the proper combination of vitamins and minerals.

Clusivol Plus has been reformulated with increased levels of vitamin C, vitamin B complex, vitamin E, zinc, and copper needed to better build up the body’s immunity. This new and improved version of the popular Clusivol for Adults vitamin supplement is now available in all leading drugstores nationwide for only P7 SRP.

At this time of the year, it is wise to invest in boosting the body’s immune system – after all, prevention is better than cure. “It is expensive to get sick. Kaya bawal magkasakit,” Dr. Dorado reiterated.
