An expression of life through art

FUNDACION Centro Flamenco founder Cecile de Joya, and her daughter Minette held their exhibit recently at the Sunshine Place in Makati City entitled Breaking Through: An Expression of Life Through Art.

Cecile de Joya discovered her love for painting when she was invited in 2015 to teach Flamenco to members at the Sunshine Place. The art classes at the Senior Recreation Center caught her attention. She decided to attend those classes. Upon retirement a year later, she decided to pursue painting. “Painting has been a part of my life since my mother is an artist, a musician and a painter as well,” she said.

She decided to attend those classes. Upon retirement a year later, she decided to pursue painting. “Painting has been a part of my life since my mother is an artist, a musician and a painter as well,” she said. 

From 2015 to date, she was able to achieve more than 25 paintings both in class and at home; of which her inspiration come from Flamenco. She also has works on landscape, seascape sceneries, floral arrangements and mother and child portraits. 

Her daughter, Minette, has an innate talent for painting.  Cecile shared: “She is an inborn painter even without formal lessons.”Minette started dabbling in sketching in high school. In her college years, she explored water color medium albeit short lived because she did not have formal training Minette only pursued painting once more when mother brought her to Sunshine Place. Together with her mom, they enrolled and rediscovered her painting talents. 

Minette featured more than 15 art works of abstract, figure and mother and daughter art works.
