MANILA, Philippines — Vilma Santos and Paolo Ballesteros won Best Actress and Best Actor respectively at the 1st Eddy Awards last July 8 at the Kia Theater in Cubao, Quezon City.
The Eddy’s is mounted by the Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (SPEEd), a non-stock, non-profit organization of entertainment editors from the country’s top broadsheets and tabloids.
The show, hosted by father and son Edu and Luis Manzano. The awards show opened on a high note with a performance by hot love team James Reid and Nadine Lustre. They brought the house down with a song and dance number that signalled an electrifying night ahead. The people at the venue were on their feet and cheering midway through the number.
The other performers that night, namely Yassi Pressman, Arjo Atayde, Ella Cruz, Julian Trono, Martin Nievera, Ogie Alcasid, Morissette Amon, Klarisse, made time for The Eddys. from the producers, Viva Live and ABS-CBN.
Vilma won for "Everything About Her," while Paolo was recognized for "Die Beautiful."
Lav Diaz added another feather in his cap by winning Best Director for "Ang Babaeng Humayo."
Angel Locsin and John Lloyd Cruz, on the other hand, were named Best Actress and Best Actor for "Everything About Her" and "Ang Babaeng Humayo," respectively.
The late Jake Tordesillas, a multi-awarded movie scriptwriter, was given a posthumous award.
The Eddys is organized by the Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors, composed of entertainment editors of broadsheets and tabloids nationwide.
