Cavite launches SIPAG project

SILANG, Cavite—Police Senior Supt. William Segun, officer-in-charge of the Cavite Provincial Police Office, recently led the grand opening of SIPAG or Simula ng Pag-asa program at the Cavite State University campus here.

Segun was joined by Silang Vice Mayor Aidel Belamide, General Mariano Alvarez Vice Mayor Maricel Torres, barangay officials, volunteer pastors and  367 drug surrenderers of the “Carsigma” (Carmona, Silang and Gen. Mariano Alvarez) area.

SILANG, Cavite—Police Senior Supt. William Segun, officer-in-charge of the Cavite Provincial Police Office, recently led the grand opening of SIPAG or Simula ng Pag-asa program at the Cavite State University campus here.

Segun was joined by Silang Vice Mayor Aidel Belamide, General Mariano Alvarez Vice Mayor Maricel Torres, barangay officials, volunteer pastors and  367 drug surrenderers of the “Carsigma” (Carmona, Silang and Gen. Mariano Alvarez) area.

The grand opening was initiated to sustain the Philippine National Police’s Community Based Recovery and Wellness Program for surrenderers, which includes SIPAG, a faith-based community rehabilitation program with pastors and volunteers as facilitators.

The activity was realized through the support of the local government executives of Carsigma, other concerned agencies and volunteer pastors.

Segun said all surrenderers in Cavite province will undergo the community-based rehabilitation program, and directed all chiefs of police to cluster their respective areas by districts. 

They will hold a grand launching of the program with the involvement of multi-sectoral groups such as the Local Government Units, Municipal Health Office, City/Municipal Social and Welfare Development Office and Members of Faith-based organizations/groups.

He also intends to mobilized all other sectors to support PNP programs not only on the campaign against criminalities but also other projects. 

During his inspirational message, Segun expressed his gratitude to the stakeholders for their unrelenting support, the personnel of Carmona, Silang and GMA MPS for their efforts which made the grand opening successful and also for the cooperation of the recipient-drug surrenderers.

He said surrenderers who will be able to complete the program will be given work after undergoing a livelihood training to help reduce economic risks and so that they will no longer be tempted of involving themselves in illegal drug trade.

As a final message, he urged the attendees to continuously support the PNP deliver its mandated tasks and basic services to the community.

As of this date, out of 30, 288 drug personalities who surrendered to Cavite Police as a result of the government’s campaign against illegal drugs, 5,601 graduated from the SIPAG program, while 699 are still ongoing. 

On the other hand, 13,319 have undergone the community-based rehabilitation program initiated by LGUs provincewide.
