The parents of a teenage girl are demanding an apology from Surrey RCMP, after their daughter was handcuffed and taken to the ground in what they say is a case of mistaken identity.

"My daughter, she did nothing. She was on her way to find — what every parent wishes their children start doing — finding her first job," said Garry Auguste.

Two people are dead and another three are in stable condition after their 8.5-metre-long catamaran sank in the waters northwest of Tofino, B.C., off Vancouver Island.

A distress call came in around 1:20 p.m. PT on Sunday. According to the Joint Rescue Centre in Victoria, five people were in the water until 2:50 p.m. off Bartlett Island near Vargas Island, which is northwest of Tofino.

The woman pushing a baby stroller on Vancouver's seawall wants to talk about housing, and B.C. NDP candidate Morgane Oger is happy to oblige.

"I'm 42 years old with a 2½-year-old, and there's no way I can purchase a home," says the woman, repeating what Oger calls a resounding theme in the downtown riding of Vancouver-False Creek.

The Vancouver Tenants Union says its ready to represent renters across the city, and hopes to sign up thousands of members to be a collective voice for residents facing eviction and unfair rent increases.

"Just to build tenant power," said Derrick O'Keefe, a volunteer with the newly formed group. "Tenants are feeling very precarious and just feeling one paycheck away or one renoviction away from losing their homes."
