Winnie the True

Impersonating is her thing. She has actually made a career out of it.

Comedian Winnie Tan has always been interested in entertainment, singing, dancing and acting. She has been, and still is,fascinated with costumes and make-up. She was introduced to the art of impersonation when she did a gig for the Filipino community in Vancouver where the organizers asked her to imitate Lady Gaga.

From then on, Winnie has performed at different plays and TV commercials and hosts programs and events. She gets a “rush” from entertaining people.

Winnie knew that she was funny. Back in grade school, she was the “class clown,” with a sense of humor that is not slapstick, but drawn from experience. Seven years ago, Winnie started thinking of doing standup comedy. She looked up to impersonator icons Luisa Marshall as Tina Turner, Donna Marie as Lady Gaga and Eli Williams as Elvis Presley.

In front of the camera, Winny is funny and witty, but the true Winnie is a bit different. She is a loving mother, a hardworking student, and a deep thinker. Winnie gets inspiration from her children, she is in the process of continuing education to eventually become a health coach, and she believes that one should never waste time on people, things and situations that don’t uplift or make one happy.

Winnie’s life now is what she has always wanted it to be.

“My love life is pretty stable and smooth sailing. In my spiritual life, I try my best to stay connected and in my social life, I keep my real friends closer as I have been preoccupied with personal matters that socializing has been cut down to a bare minimum,” Winnie shares.

This health buff eats healthy, avoids negativity, and has learned to be happy and exercise regularly. To relax, she goes for a hike, runs, sweats it out at the gym, or gets a massage.

Winnie is also a stylist who loves the Romantic Period when in comes to fashion. She tries to keep up with fashion trends, so her style evolves.

“I used to love prints, then color, then animal prints, and currently I love the nudes or more of monochromatic colors,” says Winnie, who thinks that style is subjective and more personal so it’s a bit difficult to teach style to others.

“I would say style is very subjective. A lot of things could and may influence someone’s style. When I style someone, I try to match their look or style with their personality,” she says.

But fashion that does not go out of style can fit anyone, such as the basic black dress and white t-shirts. For the fashion industry in the Philippines, Winny dreams for Filipino designers to make it big and be known worldwide.
