Canada's prime minister reiterated his threat to respond with tariffs if the United States does not change course. And he said he “highlighted directly to the president that Canadians did not take it lightly that the United States has moved forward with significant tariffs on our steel and aluminum industry,” during a news conference at the end of the Group of Seven meeting in Quebec.
Trudeau said Canada's citizens “did not take lightly that it’s for a national security reason" that Trump used as the rationale for the tariffs, adding "that for Canadians … who stood shoulder to shoulder with American soldiers in far-off lands in conflicts from the first World War onward, it’s kind of insulting.”
