  • 4th Ceres Cup breaks own record anew with 465 teams

    Following the 420 teams record set last year, the Ceres Cup broke own record anew with 465 teams competing in the 2-day 4th Ceres Cup on May 20-21, 2017 at the North Field, Carlos Hilado Memorial State College Football Field and Sta. Maria Football Field – all in Talisay City. 

    Started with 306 teams in 2014, Ceres Cup has grown tremendously through the years – expecting more than 10,000 players, coaches and parents coming over for the weekend’s tournament.

  • Another late-match ‘crash’ for Global’s AFC Cup bid

    FAILED anew to get the match to the dock caused local side Global Cebu FC a chance to extend its campaign in the 2017 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup.

    Needing to win in the second leg of its ASEAN zonal semifinals with Home United FC last Tuesday in Singapore, Global was seemingly on its way to delivering until another late-match “crash” altered the outcome for the team that saw it lose, 3-2, in the match and, 5-4, on aggregate, effectively eliminating it from the secondary club football tournament hosted by the AFC.

  • Away goals send Ceres to AFC Cup zonal final

    LOCAL club Ceres-Negros FC’s impressive run in the 2017 AFC Cup continues after it survived a tough two-leg ASEAN Zonal Semifinals with Malaysia’s Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) thanks to away goals.

    Fought its opponent to a 4-4 stalemate on aggregate following a 2-1 win in the second leg at its home field of Panaad Park and Football Stadium last Wednesday, Ceres saw itself advance to the finals for the two away goals it managed to get in a 3-2 loss in the first leg in Johor early last month.

  • Ceres FC crashes Ilocos Utd, 7-0; remains undefeated at home

    Ceres Negros FC braved the rains over the weekend to defend its home at the Panaad Park and Stadium with a stunning 7-0 victory over visiting Ilocos United FC.

    ‘Man of the Match’ Stephan Schrock opened Ceres FC scoring spree in the early 12th minute of the game off a short pass from OJ Porteria beating Ilocos United keeper Baba Sampana.

  • Ceres FC sweeps Stallion Laguna; challenges Global on July 5

    Ceres Negros FC cameout with a solid 5-2 win over the weekend to sweep the visiting Stallion Laguna FC in their fourth straight victory in the Philippines Football League at the Panaad Oark and Stadium.

    The home squad delighted the 2,640 fans at Panaad with Stephan Schröck opening the scoring in the 12th minute – beating Stallion keeper Roland Sadia as Jeffrey Christaens made it doubled in the 25th minute on a pass from the former SpVgg Greuther Fürth midfielder.

  • Checkatrade Trophy round-up: Several Premier League academies crash out

    West Ham U21s did little to improve the current morale at the east London club as they were beaten 3-0 by Wycombe. Adebayo Akinfenwa, Scott Kashket and Nick Freeman were on target for the League Two side, while there were also defeats for the academies of Premier League sides Middlesbrough, Everton, West Brom and Stoke.

    16 JULY 2017 - CEBU CITY: Visiting team Davao Aguilas FC, came in as an underdog in an exciting Saturday night match at the Cebu City Sports Center.  The home crowd expected a third straight win from Global Cebu FC, winning over Ceres Negros FC and Stallions Laguna FC just days before.  But the Aguilas thwarted the crowd’s expectation and ended the match with a clean sheet, and a score of 0-0.

    One question that has been heavily debated by fans ever since last Saturday night is whether Kell Brook quit after taking a knee in the 11th round last Saturday night against Errol Spence Jr? It looked like Brook chose to quit rather than continue fighting and go out on his shield the way that many of the fighters in the past have done. Brook, 31, had suffered an eye injury to his left eye at some point in the second half of the fight.

    DE LA SALLE completed a nine-match sweep with a 3-1 conquest of University of Santo Tomas, 3-1, for its ninth championship in the UAAP Season 79 women’s football tournament Sunday night at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

    It was a glorious campaign for the Lady Archers, who went undefeated to end a seven-year title drought.

  • FC Meralco settles for draw but regains PFL driver seat

    FC MERALCO Manila was held to a 2-2 draw by Global Cebu FC in its Saturday Philippines Football League fixture but it was enough to thrust it back in the driver’s seat in the standings of the newly created national football league.

    Siblings James and Phil Younghusband provided the goals for host team Meralco but a brace from newly signed player Darryl Roberts for visiting Global negated them, forcing the match, played at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium, to end in a draw, and the teams getting a point each.

  • Five straight wins, tournament leadership for Kaya

    THE impressive run of Kaya FC-Makati of late in the Philippines Football League (PFL) was maintained by the club on Sunday as it rolled to its fifth straight victory which in turn gifted it the tournament leadership.

    Defeated Ilocos United FC, 2-1, at the University of Makati Stadium, Kaya improved its record to eight wins, two draws and three losses for 26 points, two points clear of erstwhile league-leader FC Meralco Manila (7-3-1).

  • Global Cebu blanks Ilocos, 3-0

    JAPANESE winger Shu Sasaki bagged a brace as Global Cebu blanked Ilocos United, 3-0, even as Davao Aguilas and Stallion Laguna battled to a goalless draw in the Philippines Football League held over the weekend.

    Sasaki scored his two goals in a five-minute span at Quirino Stadium in Vigan, after Paul Mulders opened the scoring from the penalty spot as Global moved up to third by improving to 10 points in five matches. 

  • Global looks to build on winning AFC Cup start

    Started slow in the match, Global eventually broke through before the opening half came to a close, with skipper Misagh Bahadoran finding the net off a fine cross from teammate Matthew Hartmann in the 39th minute to go up, 1-0.

    Boosted by its strong finish in the first half, “The People’s Club,” as Global is referred to, continued to take it to Mangwe, getting into scoring position a couple of times but was not able to convert.
