NM Darry Bernardo wins PCAP try out in Pampanga

Manila---Former Far Eastern University bet National Master (NM) Darry Bernardo clearly demonstrated his inner strength to rout his brother International Master elect Dale Bernardo, 2.5-0.5,

to win the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) try out dubbed as 1st Jake "Talov" Carlos Invitational Chess Tournament on Sunday, October 18, 2020 at the Palma de Oro, San Fernando, Pampanga.
The actual over the board tournament hosted by Jake "Talov" Carlos as part of the selection process for the Team Pampanga according to famous Pampanga chess organizer Jose Camaya with National Arbiter Edward Serrano served as chief arbiter and assisted by Alberto Arellano.
With the win, NM Darry pocket the top prize of P3,000 while IM elect Dale went home runner-up prize P1,000 for his effort.
On the road to the finals of five minutes blitz time control format, NM Darry toppled John Jasper Laxamana, 2-1, while IM elect Dale trounced Michael Mallari, 2-1.
Earlier, IM elect Dale topped the 13 rounds preliminary round while NM Darry, Laxamana and Mallari finished 2nd to fourth placers to advance to the final four.
Youngest participant 10 years old Zoe Denise Paige Ramos won the kiddies category.
