Manila,Philippines---Five-time Olympian Woman International Master Cristine Rose Mariano-Wågman made the Philippines proud by becoming the first Filipina to grace the cover of a European chess magazine.

Mariano, a multi-time national champion, is featured in the front cover of the prestigious chess magazine Schack in its latest issue.

The former University of the East mainstay Mariano is a Palarong Pambansa gold medallist during her College days. She is also a silver medallist in the national judo womens 60kg category.

Mariano, a former Philippine Airforce Chess Team mainstay is now residing in Umeå, Sweden.
