FILIPINO woodpushers here and abroad will compete for honors when the 1st Marinduque Online Chess Tournament gets underway on August 28 , 2020, Friday at Seven Pm at lichess.org
 National Chess Federation of the Philippines -NCFP Assistant Executive Director  for Southern Luzon Dr. Alfredo "Fred" Paez  said chessers from Metro Manila, Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao as well from abroad will see action in this Nine Round Swiss System five minutes plus two seconds time control format, sponsored by  Board Member Engr. John Pelaez,  Engr. Jimmy Paez,  Engr. Noel Paez and  Mr. Sonnie Paez and jointly organized by the  Philippine Executive Chess Association-PECA and Marinduque Chess Association.
 
" I would like to give thanks to Board Member Engr. John Pelaez, my good friend during my elementary years, and to my brothers, Engr. Jimmy Paez, a QC Engineer in Saudi Arabia, Engr. Noel Paez, an Aircraft Instructor of Lufthansa Technik, and Mr. Sonnie Paez, for sponsoring the 1st Marinduque Online Chess Tournament," said  Dr. Paez who is also the president of the  Philippine Executive Chess Association-PECA.  
 
"Hoping that this is the start of bigger chess events in Marinduque, my hometown,"  added Dr. Paez, former top player of the multi-titled National University Chess Team during his College Days. 
 
Cash prizes await winners with the champion taking home P3,000, the runner-up will receive P2,000 while the third-placer will settle for P1,000. The next two chessers will pocket  P700 and P500 each, respectively.
 
There will be a P500 cash prizes each for the category winners, Top Executive (PECA Member), Top Kiddie (12 years old and below), Top Junior (18 years old and below), Top Senior (60 years old and above), Top Lady, Top Marinduqueno and Top Marinduquena.
 
The one day free registration online chess tournament is open to all players who are in good standing with the   National Chess Federation of the Philippines -NCFP.-Marlon Bernardino-
