Filipino chess wizard Jeremy Bruselas Marticio of Cabuyao City, Laguna pocketed the top honors in the Golden Mind Chess FIDE rated Standard Round Robin Chess Tournament held at the Tagumpay Canteen EBR Building ,P. Torres Street, Lipa City, Batangas.
The 14-year-old Maricio, one of the top players of Cabuyao City mayor Atty. Rommel A. Gecolea and Philippine Executive Chess Association president Dr. Alfredo "Fred" Paez collected 7.5 points on seven wins, one draw and one loss to win the Nine-Round FIDE Standard Round Robin Chess tournament.
The grade 8 pupil of Pulo National High School, Cabuyao City, Laguna Marticio scored victories over Precious Nicole Lasin in the first round, Vincent Paul Francisco in the second round, Christian Peter Aristorenas in the third round, Jeremiah Luis Cruz in the fourth round, Kaye Lalaine Regidor in the sixth round, Jersey Marticio in the eight round and Elijah Gabriel Santiago in the ninth and final round.
He split the point with Rigil Kent Rosell Pahamtang in the seventh round and yielded to Eowyn Jullado in the fifth round.
The 2-day (February 29 and March 1, 2020) FIDE standard tournament organized by Golden Mind chess club president Alexandro “Allan” Osena. Chief arbiter is International Arbiter Reden Cruz and assisted by Fide National Arbiter Marian Osena.
It shall be recalled that Jeremy finished 3rd over-all during the Lian Chess Tournament last February 16, 2020 held at the Municipal Hall, Lian, Batangas and 3rd place in the Open group A class Para Sa Community FIDE/NCFP Standard rating grand finals age group chess championships held at the SM City Olongapo Central in Olongapo City from January 31 to February 2, 2020.-Marlon Bernardino-
