SINGAPORE---Filipino Grandmaster (GM) Darwin Laylo defeated Nicholas Goi of Singapore in the last round to create a three-way tie for first in the January edition of Asean Chess Academy (ACA) Rapid Chess Tournament held on Sunday (January 5, 2020) at the Bukit Timah Shopping Centre here in Singapore.

Laylo collected six points on five wins and two draws in seven outings, the same output of Fide Master (FM) Robert Suelo and Arena Grandmaster (AGM) Almario Marlon Bernardino Jr. in the one day 15 minutes time control rapid event.

With the highest tiebreak points, Laylo took the title, Suelo finished second while Bernardino settled for third.

Laylo halving the point with Suelo in Round 3 and Bernardino in Round 5. Bernardino split the point with Suelo in Round 4.

The triumvirate receive their cash prizes and trophies for their efforts during the awarding ceremonies led by Woman International Master (WIM) Jan Jodilyn Fronda and Franz Grafil.
