Tanauan City, Batangas---Reigning National Junior champion National Master Jeth Romy Morado scored back-to-back wins after beating his countryman Jerish John Velarde in the Eastern Asia Juniors and Girls Chess Championships  at the First Asia Institute of Technology and Humanities College in Tanauan City, Batangas on Wednesday, December 11, 2019.


Playing white, Morado, a 2nd-year college student  taking up International Auditing at the Far Eastern University-Manila campus prevailed after 30 moves of Sicilian defense. Morado, the 2017 Kuantan, Pahang, Malaysia Asean Age Group Under 20 division champion improved to a total of 2.0 points to share 2nd to 5th places with International Master Marvin John Miciano and Michael Concio Jr. of the Philipines and International Master Gilbert Elroy Tarigan of Indonesia.
Morado earlier brought down his compatriot John Paolo Medina after 35 moves of Slav defense on Tuesday's opening round.


In other matches saw, Miciano crushed Eric Labog Jr. after 6 moves of Pirc defense while Concio defeated Mark Jay Bacojo after 48 moves of Catalan Opening.
Defending champion International Master Daniel Quizon trounced Robert James Perez after 45 moves of Larsen Opening to create a three-way tie for fifth (1.5 points each) with  FIDE Master Daniel Hermawan Lumban Tobing of Indonesia and Mark Christian Daluz who drew their game after 27 moves of Sicilian skirmish.
In the distaff side, Jerlyn Mae San Diego of Dasmarinas City, Philippines dealt Alphecca Gonzales after 66 moves of Sicilian defense to raised her total 2.0 points, the same output of Woman Fide Master Nguyen Thi Minh Oanh of Vietnam, Bea Mendoza of the Philippines and Woman Candidate Master  Jia-Tien Chua of Malaysia.


The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) sponsored this tournament organized by Saturnino Belen Jr. of Active Chess Center for Asia under the auspices of the Asian Chess Federation, World Chess Federation (FIDE), and the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) headed by its president/chairman Deputy Speaker Prospero "Butch" Pichay Jr. in cooperation with the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).
The Lima Park Hotel in Malvar, Batangas is the official hotel of the week-long event.-Marlon Bernardino-
