International Master (IM) Ronald Bancod ruled the Grand Father Hangout Rapid Chess Tournament held at the Activity Area, Level 1 in Gateway Mall, Araneta Cubao on Sunday.

Bancod finished with five points to win the five-round tournament sanctioned by NCFP and organized by Chess Director Chess Club Coalition of the Philippines.

Bancod brought home the gold medal, plaque, gift certificates and the P10,000 top prize.

13-time Philippine Open champion Grandmaster Rogelio "Joey" Antonio Jr., tied for second-fourth places with United States chess master Jose "Jojo" Aquino Jr. and National Master Carlo Magno Rosaupan 4.5 points each.

Rounding up the top 10 winners were International Master Barlo Nadera (5th), National Master Noel Dela Cruz (6th), Florel Cruz (7th), Jerry Areque (8th), Ritchie Jocson (9th) and engineer Ravel Canlas (10th).

A Guiness Record in Philippine Chess History for the most number of participants in a single chess tournament with 260 participants in the 40 years old and above one-day rapid tournament according to Chess Director Chess Club Coalition of the Philippines top honcho Martin "Binky" Gaticales.-Marlon Bernardino-

Pinagharian ni International Master (IM) Ronald Bancod ang katatapos na Grand Father Hangout Rapid Chess Tournament na ginanap sa Activity Area, Level 1 sa Gateway Mall, Araneta Cubao nitong Linggo.

Tumapos si Bancod ng five points para magkampeon sa five-round tourmament na sanctioned ng NCFP at inorganisa ng Chess Director Chess Club Coalition of the Philippines. Inuwi ni Bancod ang gold medal, plaque, gift certificates at P10,000 top prize.
