Dimple Melendres, Annyssa Tongko and Zhaira Navarra along with Iñigo Morales, Lawrence Pascua and Clutch Jandumon will spearhead the Panthers campaign in the 2nd Panther 1900 below Non-Master Chess Tournament on Sunday at the New Prodon Academy of Valenzuela, number 2428 M. Delos Reyes Street, Gen. T. De Leon, Valenuzela City.

“It’s going to be exciting, that’s for sure,” said tournament organizer Mr. Kenneth Resurreccion, adding that players from Sto. Rosario Montessori School of Valenzuela led by Cesar John P. Carpizo, Rowan Ian D. Saulog and Mary Kate R. Bautista have already confirmed their attendance.

The one-day tournament, which is sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines, offers a total prize fund of P10,400 with the champion getting the lion’s share of $4,000 and a medal.

The second to third placers will take home P2,000 and P1,000 plus medals, respectively. Fourth to 7th placers will get P500. Special prizes for the category winners top lady, high school, elementary and Valenzuelano worth P350 each plus medals.

“It will be very tough playing against the top players from Metro Manila as well nearby province,” said tournament director Mr. Jayson Resurreccion, adding that they will also be challenged by the Collegiate and Universities woodpushers.

Chief Arbiter is Fide National Arbiter Alexander "Alex" Dinoy of Chess Arbiter Union of the Philippines.
