A wide-open battle for top honor is set when the 6th leg of the 2019 National Executive Chess Championships gets underway on May 25 at the Activity Hall, Second Floor Alphaland Makati Place in Malugay Street, Makati City.

Jolly Smile Dental Clinic top honcho dentist Dr. Alfredo Paez of Cabuyao City, Laguna and former Far Eastern University mainstay Mark Anthony Mallari Yabut of Bacolor, Pampanga are among the favorites in the event organized by Philippine Executive Chess Association (PECA) under the leadership of it's president Dr. Jenny Mayor, a native of Romblon and currently based in Quiapo, Manila.

Paez, top skipper of the National University chess team during his College days won the 2018 Alphaland National Executive Chess Championship held at the Jardin del Roca Resort in Toril, Davao City last October 27, 2018 while Yabut, top Real estate broker in Pampanga who already won numerous local chess tournaments.

Other woodpushers vying in the Group A or Open event are 2018 PECA Grand Finals champion National Master Atty Bob Jones Liwagon of the Judge Advocate General's Office (JAGO) from Cotabato City, IT specialist Joselito Cada of Lucban, Quezon, engineer Arjoe Loanzon of Cavite City, former Olympian & retired judge Rosendo Bandal, Jr. of Dumaguete City, Pagcor engineer Ravel Canlas of Marinduque, veteran lawyer Jose Aspiras of Pugo, La Union now based in Quezon City and businessman Dandel Fernandez of Maynilad.
