Dasmariñas City, Cavite —Bacoor City's pride Aaron Francis De Asas and General Trias City bet Clark Jemuel Cabatian spearheaded the champions in the recently held National Age Group Chess Championships-Luzon Qualifying II (Dasmariñas Leg) at the Robinson Place, Pala Pala in Dasmariñas City, Cavite on Saturday.

De Asas, one of the country’s promising woodpushers tallied five wins in six outings, the same output of Cabatian to share the podium in the Under 10 boys division.

De Asas scored victories over Jacob Villaceran, Yosef Immanuel Morada, Matt Isaiah Gelluah and Cabatian in the first four rounds. He split the point with Julie Gelua Jr. in the fifth round and Jeroniel Perez in the sixth and final round. Cabatian bested Flyde Jeric Yulangco in the first round, Ethan Jackenzie Ang in the second round, Mar Aviel Carredo in the third round but yielded to De Asas in the fourth round. He beat Austin Klhoe Roan in the fifth round and Gelua in the last round.

The 8 years old Cabatian, a grade 3 pupil of John Isabel Learning Center in General Trias City, Cavite whose trip here is being supported by local government of General Trias City, Cavite led by Mayor Antonio “Ony” Ferrer, Congressman Luis “Jon-jon” Ferrer, Sports head Lhen "Baby Lyn" Muralla Kempiz and PH coach Ederwin Estavillo is best to remember after winning the gold medal in the Under 8 category of the Thailand Pattaya Youth Chess Championship 2018 held at the Bay Beach Resort Pattaya, Banglamung, Chin Buried in Pattaya, Thailand last October.

Cabatian also settled fourth place finish during the first leg of the 2019 National Age-Group Chess Championships (NAGCC)- Luzon Leg (Legaspi leg) being held at the Pacific Mall in Legazpi City, Albay last March.
