Pamplona siblings score contrasting wins in Bacolod chess tourney

Rolando III, Ruslan, King Lanz, and Queen Rose Pamplona of Passi City, Iloilo scored contrasting victories on Sunday to advance into the grand finals of this years' 2019 National Youth and Schools Chess Championships-Visayas leg held at the 4th floor Metro Lobby, Ayala Malls Capitol Central, Bacolod City on Sunday.

The six years-old Rolando III topped the Under 7 boys category after beating fellow six pointers Eugene Gale Talledo in the tie break points while the eight-years-old Ruslan, on the other hand won his last three matches to rule the Under 9 division with six points marker in seven outings.

The nine-years-old King Lanz, meantime took the Under 11 boys category with six points while his elder sister Queen Rose placed second over all to eventual champion Samantha Babol Umayan in the Under 13 girls division.

Proud parents engineer Rolando II and Roselyn Olaira Pamplona would like to thank Passi I Central School, sportsman Jerry Palmares, Atty. Sharing the limelight are Jave Mareck Pateros and Jerish John Velarde of Cebu who won the U-13 and U-15 boys division, respectively.

No less than Negros Island Professionals Chess Association (NIPCA) top honcho Stella Mar Abanco of Abanco Realty,Leo Romitman and Philippine Executive Chess Association (PECA) president Dr. Jenny Mayor led the closing rites.-Marlon Bernardino-
