NATIONAL MASTER (NM) Alcon John Datu and Francesca Largo shared the limelight in the recently concluded Pampanga Open and Kiddies Fide Rated Chess Tournament held at the Marque Mall, Angeles City, Pampanga last Saturday, January 5, 2019.
 
Datu finished the tournament undefeated in the 9 rounds with 8 wins and 1 draw for a total score of 8.5 points.
 
He pocketed P6,000 top purse for his effort in the National Chess Federation of the Philippines sanctioned tournament supervised by Jose Fernando Camaya, Edward Serrano, Ilann Perez, Nestor Barbosa, Alexander Dinoy and Alfredo Chay of the Chess Arbiter Union of the Philippines applying the 15 minutes plus three seconds increment time control.
 
Largo, on the other hand, tallied a total of 6 points on 6 wins and 1 loss in 7 outings to bring home the champion's purse of P3,000 with trophy in the kiddie's class with a higher tie break points. Also with six points are 2nd place Jerome Adrian Aragones and 3rd place Tiv Omangay. Rounding up ot the top-8 circle are 4th place Jeremy Marticio, 5th place Zeus Alexis Paglinawan, 6th place Lexie Grace Hernandez, 7th place April Joy Claros and 8th place Allan Gabriel Hillario. Seven Years old Oshrie Jhames Constantino Reyes won the top youngest category in the kiddies division.
 
In the Open’s class, Grandmaster Darwin Laylo had superior tiebreak results in the huge group of 7.0 pointers to secure the second-place trophy while International Master Roel Abelgas took the third-place trophy. Also with 7.0 points are 4th place Samson Chhiu Chhin Lim, 5th place Fide Master Nelson Villanueva, 6th place International Master and GM elect Ronald Dableo, 7th place Don Tyrone Delos Santos, 8th place Istraelito Rilloraza, 9th place Lennon Hart Salgados and 10th place Antonio Almodal III.

Tumapos si Datu na undefeated sa 9 rounds tournament na may 8 wins at 1 draw tungo sa total score 8.5 points.
