MANILA, Philippines--Seven-time Philippine executive chess champion Dr. Jenny T. Mayor of Mayor Dental Clinic, Atty. Cliburn Anthony Orbe of Alphaland Corporation, Dr. Alfredo "Fred" Paez of Jolly Smile Dental Clinic, Cabuyao, Laguna, Information Technology expert Joselito Cada of Quezon Province and National Master (NM) Jose Efren Bagamasbad of Galas, Quezon City are ready to face their respective opponents at the knock-out stage of the Alphaland National Executive Chess Championships Grand Finals, Last 64 of the organizing Philippine Executive Chess Association on December 1 at the Activity Hall, 2nd Floor, Alphaland Makati Place, Ayala Avenue corner Malugay Street, Makati City.
“[There’s] too much pressure out there. Maybe if I can win a few matches I’m gonna play good without pressure but now, too much." said the Quiapo, Manila based Dentist Mayor.
It shall be recalled that Dr. Mayor who hails from Odiongan, Romblon defeated National Master (NM) Francis Jocson in the sixth and final round to score 5.5 points on five wins and a draw in six outings to topped the Philippine Executive Chess Association (PECA) 4th leg Alphaland National Executives Chess Circuit Visayas Leg held at the Kubo Bar Garden and Restaurant in Kalibo, Aklan last April 28, 2018, to advance Final 64, broadcasted live worldwide through the YouTube and Facebook channel of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines.
Mayor will slug it out National Master (NM) Wilfredo Neri of Kalibo Aklan in the single elimination or knock-out format backed up by Alphaland Corporation which offers a whopping total pot prize more than P200,000 with the champion getting the lion share of P50,000 while P30,000 will receive the runner-up place applying 25 minutes + five seconds per move each player to finish the game.
Lawyer Orbe, on the other hand assigment is La Salle coach Susan Grace Neri.
“I expect a tough game but as long as you have the heart you can win here,” said lawyer Orbe, the over-all PECA Grand prix topnotcher who help Team Orbe in an over-all second play finish during the Mayor Jojo Palma and Atty Gerry “Titing” Albano Tatluhan Chess Tournament last November 18, 2018 at the Heros Hall, AIM Coop in Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur.
