LOUIE "España" Salvador pocketed the top honors in the Assumption - Big Rook Chess Festival 2018 Under 2200 division, Standard chess tournament held at the Assumption Association Rama 4 Road in Bangkok, Thailand last Sunday.

The former San Sebastian College standout Salvador under the tutelage of National Master Homer Cunanan collected 6 points on account of five wins and two draws to win the seven round tournament.

Salvador who is also a product of España Chess Club and Novaliches Novelty Chess Club scored victories over Necodemus Dimayuga of the Philippines in the second round, Fide Master Poompong Wiwatanadate of Thailand in the third round, National Master Ric Portagalera of the Philippines in the fourth round, Nathaniel Loyaga of the Philippines in the fifth round and Rolly Parondo Jr. in the seventh and final round.
He split the point with Suppakrit Saelee of Thailand in the first round and Jimson Bitoon of the Philippines in the sixth and penultimate round.

Fide Master Jony Habla and Jimson Bitoon of the Philippines finished in a tie for 2nd to 3rd placers with 5.5 points.

Parondo, meantime remains at 5 points and was dropped at 4th to 6th placers in the company of Jarunpol Sajjapornthep and Thoetsak Wongsawan of Thailand.-Marlon Bernardino-
