Jerry Areque of Bacolod City accumulated an impressive 5.5 victories in six games on his road to first place at the Hon. Sen. Manny Pacquiao Chess Tournament on Saturday, January 8, 2022 in Barangay San Felix in Santo Tomas, Batangas.


The street fighter from Luneta Chess Plaza split the point with Vince Angelo Medina of Cabuyao City, Laguna in the last round to bring home P6,000 top purse plus trophy.
Medina, on the other hand, raise his total 5 points, the same output of Apollo Agapay of Cabuyao City, Laguna and Kevin Mirano of Aklan.
Medina took home a cash prize of P4,000 and a medal, Agapay pocketed P2,500 and a medal while Mirano received P2,000 and a medal.
Rounding up to the top ten in the 1-day organized by IM Hamed Nouri, US master Jun Panopio and Arnel Pinero are Sherwin Tiu (5th), Jhulo Goloran (6th), Joven Balsalubre (7th), Aaron Kimuel Lorenzo (8th), Nazario Ubanan (9th) and Tyrone delos Santos (10th).-Marlon Bernardino-
