MANILA, Philippines – Chess Grandmaster (GM) Rogelio "Joey" Antonio Jr. dominated 10-board chess simultaneous game at the Planas Site Covered Court, Barangay Kaunlaran, Cubao, Quezon City on Friday, November 19, 2021.
Antonio won 7 of the 10 matches. They fought Antonio for 3 hours before bowing to 13-times Philippine Open Champion.
Mar Aviel Carredo, Andrew Elpedes and PWD athlete Magtangol Rondina handed Antonio 3 draws.


Antonio, the 2015 Quezon City Most Outstanding Athlete awardee defeated Cornelio Marucut Jr., Ayesha Guanzon, Lyndon Villaraza, Danny Gallo, Zyrus Jei Sarne, Levi Cerna and Anthony Avellanada.
Tournament Organizer Atty. Rudy Rivera said that chess was a game fit for all.
"Chess is a mind game which does not entail too much cost to stage," he said. "Let this be the start of succeeding chess competitions in Quezon City."
Antonio conducted the chess simultaneous game to discover future chess talents in the grass roots level according to lawyer Rudy Rivera.
Antonio, Councilor Janet "Babes" Malaya and Councilor Hero Clarence Bautista of the Fourth District Quezon City and Barkadahan Para sa Bansa Party List headed by Atty. Nolan V. Banda and National Campaign Manager Dr. Ariel B. Potot led the opening rites.
Also in attendance are Sportsmanila top honco Robbie Pangilinan, Barangay Kaunlaran Secretary Sarah Pascual Austria, kgd. Jessie Tanedo Kgd. Lourdes de Angel, Kgd. Rodolfo Padolina, kgd. Jun Dordas and Kgd. Mary Ann B. Padolina.
The said chess affair is supported by Barangay Kaunlaran Chairman Christopher "Dong" Cheng.
