MANILA, Philippines---Tumapos si Filipino National Master (NM) Ivan Travis Cu ng San Juan City ng runner-up honors sa Eastern Asia Youth Online Chess Championship Under 12 Boys division virtually na ginanap sa Tornelo Platform mula Oktubre 1 hanggang 3, 2021.
Ang 12 years old Cu na Grade 7 student ng Xavier School sa San Juan City na nasa kandili ni head coach IA Rolando Yutuc ay naka kolekta ng 7.5 points mula seven wins, one draw at one loss kaparehas ng naitala nina Yichen Zhou ng China at Nho Kiet Dinh ng Vietnam para magsalo sa No.2 spot sa 144 player's field World Chess Federation (FIDE) event.
Subalit ang Filipino chess wizard ay nakopo ang silver medal dahil sa maas mataas na tiebreak points na nagbigay daan kay Zhou sa third at Kiet Dinh sa fourth place.
Umeksena din sina Dinh Bao Khang Nguyen ng Vietnam at Arena Grandmaster at National Master Christian Gian Karlo Arca ng Panabo City, Davao del Norte na tumapos sa fifth hanggang sixth places na may tig 7 points.
Dahil sa panibagong tagumpay ay naitala ni Cu ang country’s four silver-medal finish.
Nanalo din ng Silver Medal sa kani-kanilang dibisyon sina Bonjoure Fille Suyamin ng General Trias City, Cavite (Silver U12 Girls) , Chester Neil Reyes ng Rodriguez, Rizal (Silver U16 Boys) at Jerlyn Mae San Diego ng Dasmarinas City, Cavite (Silver U18 Girls).
Nagpakitang gilas din si Cedric Kahlel Abris ng Mandaluyong City matapos maiuwi ang Bronze Medal sa Under 14 Boys category.
