Keith Thurman Tells Terence Crawford: Send The Contract Over And I’ll Sign It

Keith ‘One Time’ Thurman got worked up on Monday when told that Terence Crawford told him to stop mentioning his name and crying wolf as if he’s interested in fighting him.

The former IBF/WBC welterweight champion Thurman (29-1, 22 KOs) said he’s interested in fighting WBO 147-lb champion Crawford (36-0, 27 KOs), and he wants him to send him a contract, and he’ll sign it live on Instagram it’s to his liking.

Neither fighter has an opponent for their next matches in 2020, and Thurman, 31, would like to take on the unbeaten Crawford, who he rates behind Errol Spence Jr.Thurman dares Crawford, 32, to try and stand in the pocket with him fight toe-to-toe in the way that he did in his last fight against Manny Pacquiao last July. Although Thurman lost the battle by a 12 round, split decision, but it was close.

Thurman Dares Crawford To Send Contract
“Send the contract,” said Thurman to Brian Custer’s Last Stand Podcast when told that Crawford told him to stop using his name and crying wolf. “Send the contract so I can post it on my IG [Instagram] and sign it live. Let me do my first contract live, baby.”

Will Top Rank send the contract to Thurman for a Crawford fight in 2020? That’s not likely. They’re not setting up matches for Crawford against Shawn Porter, Yordenis Ugas, and Kell Brook, which means they probably do that with Thurman.

“They don’t know me. Crawford calling me out and saying that. You don’t know me. And you don’t know what kind of contracts I’ve had in my face.“You don’t know anything. That’s real petty because we do this for a living. Pac beat me. Can you beat me? Pacquiao went toe-to-toe. Can you go blow for blow?

“I don’t know. Send the contract. Don’t get me started. I love a good fight. That’s what I live for. I’m no cherry picker. Go look at my resume. I don’t just fight people in the rankings.“I try to fight the best in the world. That’s what I have done, and that’ what I always do. That’s what I did before anyone knew who Keith Thurman ever was. We were going gym to gym. I was looking for my beat downs. Where they at?” said Thurman.

We know that Crawford doesn’t like to fight toe-to-toe, as he doesn’t have the mindset to slug with his opponents. When Crawford slugged with Egidijus Kavaliauskas, Felix Diaz, and Viktor Postol, he looked uncomfortable in each case.

Crawford ended up getting on his bicycle to get away from those guys, which turned the fights into ugly affairs that lacked action.Keith Wants Bud More Than Spence
“Right now, I want Crawford more. He got under my skin, man,” said Keith Thurman when asked, ‘Who do you want me? Crawford or Errol Spence Jr. “Errol, that’s a timeline issue. I know how the game works,” said Thurman.

It probably doesn’t matter what Keith Thurman wants. If Top Rank isn’t willing to make a fight between him and Crawford, then there’s nothing that can be done.“We got the same manager. Let’s say he’s fighting in November. If I can get a fight in December, then in early 2020, there should be no ducking Keith Thurman.

“Even if I fight in January, we can still fight in the summertime. But that’s a calendar issue. We got to kind of work closely together to make that happen.

“This Crawford, dude. Send me a contract, bro,” Thurman continued. “Tell them ESPN boys to send some zeros my way. They know what an appropriate, respectful number is, and then I sign on a dotted line, baby.

“Don’t act like I’m going to run from you. You never weighed 147, and you never got respect in the game anyways at 147. And you haven’t pushed the buttons at 147.

“You ain’t touched Shawn Porter; you haven’t touched Thurman, you haven’t touched [Danny] Garcia, you haven’t touched Spence. I’m going to run out of fingers.

“And I’m going to name all my opponents that you haven’t touched. I’m going to run out of fingers, boy. Stop it. Send the contract.

“Tell me when you want it. Do you want it before Chrismas? Merry Christmas. I’ll take the check,” said Thurman.

The chances of Crawford and Thurman fighting in 2020 are zero, and likely less than zero for 2021 as well. We’ll probably see Crawford fight Sergey Lipinets and then Josh Taylor.

One Time Expects To Dominate At 147
“I still believe I can go toe-to-toe with anybody,” said Thurman. “And I see myself reclaiming dominance at 147.“I feel 80 percent right now, and I feel that as I go along into my next camp, it’s going to be getting as close as it can to 100% right there,” said Thurman.

The injury problems and the bad habit that Thurman has shown in gaining weight n between fights makes it unlikely he’ll be able to return to his old form.

Thurman has forgotten the life that he lived to get to this point, and it is living more like a retired person. That’s what happens with athletes get wealthy.

“It’s up in the air about what’s next because there’s the spectrum, ‘Do we just get a W, do we just test the hands out, is there a legitimate match like a title eliminator?’

“That’s what’s really on my mind. If you understand boxing, you understand I’m a former champion of the world, and I have to put myself in a position to be a champion again.

“I can easily say, ‘Errol [Spence], let’s fight,’ and maybe after Danny [Garcia], I can get that. But I’ve been waiting on his timeline, and we’ve already waited long enough.

“So I would like to get some of the work in before one of those types of fights. If it’s a legitimate title eliminator, it would be optimal because it’s either a tune-up or a title eliminator title match.

“I want to be champion of the world again, and I want to fight the fighters that I haven’t fought. If those champions want to give me an opportunity, they know it’s a phone call and a contract away. That’s all I’m waiting for,” said Thurman.

2019 Was A Bad Year For Thurman
“Last year, I lost 35 pounds twice,” said Thurman. “I don’t think I’m the type of athlete that should be losing 70 pounds in a year. It was neglect.”Thurman is like most athletes that make it big. They start raiding the refrigerated, eating cookies, ice cream, and candy, and they end up having a dad’s body by the Time they hit their 30s.

It’s doubtful that Thurman will ever be able to dedicate himself enough to get back to where he was before. He’s living the soft life now, and exercise and training daily are a thing of the past for him.

“It’s what happens. Champions get a little comfortable. In the Pacquiao fight, I was one-handed, and I still almost got a turnaround with that.

“2019 was not the best Keith Thurman that you’ve ever seen, and I look forward to some prime conditioning and dominating the welterweight division.

“If I told myself that I needed a knockdown to win, even if I fell short, you might get the draw that you’re looking for,” said Thurman on why he lost to Pacquiao.

“I left it up to the judge’s something my coach Ben Getty old me to never do. I left it up to the judges in the biggest fight of my career.

“Pacquiao came to fight, 40-years-old or not. He was in shape. Its Keith Thurman against the world. It’s Keith Thurman against Everybody. Give me the contract for Everybody. Can we do that?

“You got to be more effective against Shawn Porter in a calm, cool way to get those rounds,” Keith said.

Spence Beats Danny Garcia
“Errol Spence right after the Porter fight, I give Danny Garcia a 40% chance of winning,” said Thurman. “We [Danny] were commenting on the same fight [between Errol and Porter], and Danny was happy.

“He said Errol got hit way too much by Shawn, and he said, ‘Let me hit him.’ I’ve been hit on the arm by that boy hard enough to know that you don’t want it on the chin.“The only thing is, Danny is a lot slower than Shawn. Danny doesn’t move forward like Shawn, but Errol can stand in the pocket.

“I do think they’ve got the ability to hurt one another. I think somebody is going to get dropped. We ain’t see Danny get dropped, and we ain’t seen Errol get dropped.

“Everybody is concerned about Errol after his car accident. People want to know about his conditioning healthwise. I don’t want to paint a negative picture, but people know he was going out and drinking.

“People want to know where his head game is and how mentally focused was he, and how well can he keep dominating the welterweight division?

“We want to beat these fighters, but we want to bet them in their best condition, you know? Danny said, ‘Don’t give me any excuses when I beat this boy because he saw himself beating him even before the accident happened.

“Danny wanted the fight as soon as he saw him victorious and beat Shawn Porter. I give Danny a lot more credit than Mikey Garcia. Mikey said, ‘He’s [Spence] got a lot of holes,’ but Mikey didn’t do much other than a sparring session in there.

“I do believe Danny is going to be throwing some big left hooks, trying to make a statement against Errol Spence,” said Thurman.

Anyone that thinks Danny Garcia will beat Spence will likely regret it after he deals him a one-sided loss next November.

Errol Spence Is #1 At Welterweight
“I said Errol Spence is in a powerful position now,” said Keith. “And I was once in a powerful position.

Keith Thurman Terence Crawford
“I know what it’s like to be an undefeated unified champion of the world. You can say he’s the number one welterweight, and that’s where I was at one time.

“You can argue that nobody has the states that he has. He’s in a strong position. I need a legitimate contract in my hand. I know I’ve never sent a contract to Errol Spence.

“And I know that I’ve never called Al Haymon and said, ‘Where’s Errol Spence at? Give me Errol Spence. What’s the timeline looks like.

“I’ve never made that call because if I had, we’d be talking about a contract. Errol Spence, I’ve heard rumors that he’s big and he might move up.

“All I’m saying is, if he wants to get out of 147, he can move up out of 147. I’m not going to chase Errol Spence at 154. I want Errol Spence at 147, and if he never wants the fight, then he doesn’t need to take the fight.

“That’s on his career and what his people choose to do. All the fans want to see the flight.

“Danny hit harder than anybody,” said Thurman. “He hit me with a left hook in my shoulder, and I couldn’t lift my arm for two days. I still think Danny is the biggest puncher.

“Champion of the world really soon once again,” said Thurman in predicting that he’ll become a world champion soon.

If you thought, Andy Ruiz Jr put on a lot of weight after his fight with Anthony Joshua, look at Thurman. He twice ballooned up to near 200 pounds and then had to take off all that weight for his fights against Manny Pacquiao and Josesito Lopez.
