In taking a swipe at the overweight David Benavidez, Jermall Charlo asked his fans on social media if they want him to go after the vacant WBC super-middleweight title.Benavidez (23-0, 20 KOs) lost his 168lb title last Friday when he weighed in at 170 3/4 pounds in what was supposed to be his defense against Roamer Alexis Angulo.

Rather than admitting that he trained hard enough, Benavidez blamed his weight problems on him not being able to use the sauna and workout as much as he needed to in the week of the fight.Charlo Says He’d Make Weight
“You want me to get that WBC at 168?” asked Jermall Charlo about the WBC belt that David Benavidez lost last Friday on the scales. “I’m going to make weight.

The World Boxing Councill will be holding a meeting on Tuesday to decide which fighters will face mandatory Avni Yildirim for the vacant WBC 168 lb title. These are the guys that have asked to be considered by the WBC:Charlo Says He’d Make Weight

In looking at how big Benavidez was after he rehydrated for his fight against Angulo (26-2, 22 KOs), it’s a miracle that he was able to get down to 170. That took a ton of draining for Benavidez to go from 195 to 170.

As big as he was last Saturday, he looked like a cruiserweight facing a super middleweight. Angulo stood no chance of winning dealing with the much bigger Benavidez. The fight was halted after the 10th round after Angulo’s corner pulled him out.“Callum Smith has been Diamond champ since 2017 – and in line for WBC title for a long time.

He should get the opportunity to fight for the WBC Boxing title as promised,” said Smith’s promoter Eddie Hearn on social media.

Callum Smith almost lost his last fight to John Ryder, and he might not be able to handle Yildirim if selected by the WBC.It’s too bad Benavidez lost his WBC title because there had been talk of ‘Big’ Charlo moving up in weight to challenge him for the title. A lot of boxing fans were eager to see the two of them fight at 168, but that’s never going to happen now.

David Hasn’t Given Up On 168lb Title
Benavidez is going to try and return to the super middleweight division in his next fight, but he might not be able to take the weight off. He’s 23 now, and it looks like his body has reached the point where he needs to move up the 175 lbs or 200 lbs division. If Benavidez fought at cruiserweight, he wouldn’t have to deal with melting down from the 190s to get to 175, and he might be stronger.
