VIGAN - The fight did not last long as Charly Suarez went straight to snatch the Luzproba Super Featherweight at yesterday’s Sagupaan sa Ilocos Sur--1st Kannawidan Boxing Cup in Sto. Domingo Coliseum, Sto. Domingo, Ilocos Sur.
With only 53 seconds into the third round, Suarez of Sawata, Davao del Norte won via Technical Knockout (TKO) against Dave Barlas of Polomolok, South Cotabato.
Ben Fairtex Ligas of Elorde Gym/Fairtex was in superior shape as he knocked Joan Imperial of John Bravo Boxing Gym, 2:13 seconds into the third of eight rounds to own the Luzproba Super Flyweight crown.
In another main event, Argie Toquero of Elorde Plus BF Paranaque scored a knockout (1st rd. 33 secs. of 8 rds. ) vs Jimmy Borbon of Sta.Elena, Camarines Norte, for the Luzproba Super Lightweight title.
The tournament was made possible by Ilocos Sur governor Ryan Singson with the cooperation of Elorde Ilocos Sur Promotions as one of the highlights of the Kannawidan Ylocos Festival 2020. Boxing Promoter Maria Laureta Elorde, Muay Thai Promoter Francis Amandy and Edmon Dellosa, matchmaker, were also part of the event.
In other results, John Mark Thuk of Penalosa Gym Araneta won via split decision (6 rounder) over Ranelio Quizo of Elorde South Box Las Pinas; Carl Jeffrey Basil of Mabikas Boxing Baguio won via TKO 1:59 seconds into the 5th round against Juanito Hondante of Elorde Gym Vigan Ilocos Sur; and Roy Sumugat of EPBFP won via TKO, 2:45 secs, 4 rounds against Richard Morales of 555 Fitness Gym QC.
At the pro Mua Thai cards, it was a unanimous decision (3rds, 115 lbs) for Jen Claude Sarmiento versus Ezekene Estomago, while Richard Lachica knocked out Jomel Celedonio (1:29 secs. 3ds, 135 lbs), and Mark Joseph Abrillo defeated Mike Paiz (UD).
