On Saturday night, Miguel Cotto steps into a boxing ring for his 47th career fight. And, if he’s to believed, it will also be his last. The 37 year old Cotto will face Sadam Ali live on HBO in what is being billed as Cotto’s retirement fight. Here are the odds, courtesy of Bovada:
Miguel Cotto -1600
Sadam Ali +800
Cotto is the prohibitive favorite here, as he should be. Though he’s at the end of his career and certainly not in his prime anymore, he still remains a relevant fighter who has not seen the serious drop-off you most typically see at the end of a boxer’s career. Cotto comes in off a win over Yoshihiro Kamegai, and is on a 4-1 run (the 1 loss being his 2015 defeat at the hands of Canelo Alvarez). Ali is a decent fighter probably best known for a 2016 loss to Jessie Vargas, but has shown no indication that he has what it takes to beat a fighter at Cotto’s level. A win for him here would be a huge upset - if anything, the line here is not wide enough.
In other upcoming boxing odds, Vasyl Lomachenko is favored over Guillermo Rigondeaux -500 to +350, and Billy Joe Saunders and David Lemieux are dead even at -115 each.
Finally, presented without comment:
Oscar De La Hoya -150
Conor McGregor +120
