Former Amir Khan conqueror Breidis Prescott (29-8, 21 KOs) was stopped by 30-year-old little known welterweight Levan Ghvamichava (17-2-1, 13 KOs) in the 7th round on Tuesday night on Premier Boxing Champions at the Robinson Rancheria Resort & Casino in Nice, California.

Ghvamichava knocked the 33-year-old Prescott down twice in the fight. The bout was stopped after the knockdown in the 7th by Ghvamichava. Besides his knockdown in the 7t, Prescott was dropped in the 4th as well. The official time of the stoppage was at 2:37 by referee Edward Collantes.

Prescott looked decent early in the fight, but he was getting hit with some big shots from Ghvamichava. Prescott was firing back with hard punches of his own, but he didn’t have the kind of power to hurt the 5’9” Ghvamichava.

Ghvamichava had lost his last fight in getting stopped in the 5th round by Sergey Lipinets last March. Ghvamichava was also beaten by journeyman Alberto Herrera (8-9-1) in 2013.

Prescott’s claim to fame was stopping Amir Khan in the 1st round in 2008 back when the two of them were fighting in the lightweight division. Things have gone sour for Prescott ever since with him losing to Kevin Mitchell, Miguel Vazquez, Paul McCloskey, Mike Alvarado, Terence Crawford, Roberto Garcia, and Fredrick Lawson.

It’s unclear why PBC is televising fights between this level of fighters in the main events for their cards, because it doesn’t seem likely that Ghvamichava is going anywhere with his career right now. PBC usully has at least a good A-side fighter with a future in the main events of their fight cards. That wasn’t the case tonight. If the idea is just to have entertainment involving decent lower level 2nd tier opposition, then I can understand a fight between Ghvamichava and Prescott. They’re both 2nd tier guys in their 30s. Both appear to be heading in the same direction career-wise.

In other boxing results on the card, junior middleweight Marcos Hernandez (8-0, 2 KOs) kept his unbeaten record intact with a one-sided 8 round unanimous decision over Thomas T. Hill (6-1, 1 KOs). The final judges’ scores were 79-72, 78-73, 77-74.
